Warm them in warm water with liquid fabric softener. Those dryer sheets don’t do anyhting except make the clothes smell a little better and not have static. Also, if you wash your clothes in hard water, buy some water softener and add it to the wash. It works wonders on cleaning your clothes/blankets and making them softer. Also, use liquid detergent if you are using powder. Washing clothes in cold water with powered soap is a big no no because half the time it doesn’t dissolve all the way and leaves some kind of "coating" (as you put it) on your clothes.

Wash with warm water

Certain types of fleece will "pill" when dried in a dryer – giving them a rough feel on the surface rather than the typical smooth "fleece" feel. Usually they are the cheaper kinds – if you buy "ultra plush" or other high-end fleece (about $13 a yard, versus $5 for regular fleece) it won’t pill no matter how many times you wash it.

To prevent pilling in the future, I suggest air drying your fleece blankets instead of drying them in a hot dryer.

I don’t know about fixing the ones you have, but my experince is using extra Downy (more then the advised amount) and at the last spin.

Try washing the blankets & clothing in Ivory Snow, in warm water. Add Downy liquid softener to the softener dispenser or at the beginning of the final rinse cycle. Then dry on med heat.
